Public Art - Urban
Melba Shops Refurbishment
“harmonies” sculpture. The requirement was for a low maintenance, free standing piece that would reflect aspects of the suburb. Consultations with local high school students formed the design, featuring Dame Nellie overflowing with music from the opening bar of Percy Grainger’s Song of Australia. The reverse side carries motifs describing the contemporary cultural mix within the suburb. An interesting example of synchronicity emerged during the art making process - we discovered that Percy Grainger had a driving interest for cultural patterns – his sketchbooks were filled with such motifs.
